Queer Eye star launches Etsy collection

Creating a serene, mood-boosting home has never been more important than in 2020 when we were all forced to stay inside for months on end during lockdown. Even now, as many restaurants, pubs and cinemas reopen, many of us are still working from our houses or apartments. The idea of our living spaces as havens away from the unpredictable and uneasy world outside was not lost on Queer Eye’s Tan France, who used lockdown as a chance to focus on his long-term, yet little-known love - interior décor.France, who is best known as the Queer Eye’s fashion expert, has spent the last few months working on a homeware collaboration with Etsy, co-designing with 13 of the platform’s talented sellers to create a collection of elevated must-haves. Rage room hopes to help people relieve stress – News – Herald Democrat

The Sherman Planning and Zoning Commission cleared plans this week for The Wreck Room, a new business that will let customers take out their frustrations by breaking objects inside. The Wreck Room is an example of what has been called a "rage room," or an "anger room." The concept started more than a decade ago in Japan and has since spread across the world, with many similar rooms in the United States."The proposed idea is that we are going to put a lot of great items in there and we are going to allow people to book group activities to come in and break these items with sledge hammers, crowbars, baseball and bats," Wreck Room Owner Charles White said. "It is a great way to get out aggression, tension, tiredness and things like that in a safe environment."A traditional rage ro...

Modern designers can make furniture that is almost unrecognizable | Ag News

A table has three or four or more legs and a flat top. But some modern designers can make furniture that is almost unrecognizable but still serve the same purpose. Cottone Auctions had a recent sale featuring a collection of modern furniture, including pieces by Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004). He is best known as an Italian architect, but he designed unusual furniture for Cassina and modern lamps for many companies. He is considered an important member of the Italian design movement of the late 1950s and ‘60s. The strange table pictured here is really a nest of four tables designed by Frattini in the 1960s. The group is fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle. The four tables vary in height up to 15 inches. The hammer price for the set was $1,416. The tables ...

The secret to a stylish home

What makes an interior stylish? This is a question I have given much thought to while preparing a virtual tour of some of my favourite interiors for the FT Weekend Festival, which takes place this Saturday morning.I see rooms all the time that are technically well constructed: luxurious fabrics, elaborate lighting, expensive art, books and objects placed just so. The colours sit well together and the overall look is very . . . pleasant. Inoffensive. I would not call these rooms stylish, however. They are not interesting enough, with no clever details and a thoroughly uninspiring selection of furniture. They have a distinct lack of personality about them. Some might call these rooms elegant, but I want more than that. Luke Edward Hall at the Greenbrier hotel in West Virgi...

Layouts of ‘luxury’ homes have evolved through the years

Despite the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, home sales for the wealthy this summer haven’t missed a beat. As those with means are spending more time at home than ever before, luxury home builders and interior designers have had a busy summer.“I think COVID has played into the current boom in the luxury home market because somebody who might normally just rent their second home now wants to own their second home because they want to be able to use it any time they want,” said Michael Dubb, CEO of Beechwood Homes For builders like Dubb, who is currently building the Oak Ridge homes in Saratoga Springs, and John Witt, another high-end builder based out of Saratoga Springs, they’ve seen an increase in demand, especially from those coming from New York City who a...

Bringing industrial touches to your home

When starting your industrial design journey, think about the materials that are present in your space. The design website Decor Aid notes that you should “avoid using plush fabrics paired with industrial style furniture. Instead, opt for utilitarian and hardworking materials and source furnishings that you can give a second life.”“Scour local antique shops for furniture made from wood, aluminum, iron, steel, tin, stone, and copper as these are go-to materials for enviable industrial style homes. And be sure to take advantage of distressed metal elements and wooden floors, stone countertops, and bare steel beams,” the site recommends. The site also notes that industrial design done right can also be an environmentally conscious move, since it tends to rely on up-cycled materials and vintag...
