Live6 provides patio furniture to small businesses on Livernois to stimulate local commerce

In response to the COVID-19 shutdown effects, my organization, the Live6 Alliance, created a pilot program called Livernois Outdoors to provide patio furniture to eateries and restaurants located on Livernois’ Avenue of Fashion to encourage visitorship to the corridor.  In 2019, the city of Detroit invested in a large streetscape redevelopment project, which slowed operations for a lot of businesses on the corridor. It was a long and extensive project spanning just south of Seven Mile to Eight Mile, removing the center median and expanding the sidewalks in front of the retail storefronts. During the construction period, many businesses struggled to keep their doors open and attract customers.  Patio furniture outside Good Cakes & Bakes at 19363 Livernois. The patio furniture seat cushion mystery | Columns

My wife’s timing is impeccable, unless, of course, we’re going somewhere I want to go. Then, it’s sometimes peccable.Recently, I was in the midst of watching a Georgia football game when she had the audacity to phone me.Somebody better be seriously injured, I muttered.“Len, there’s this patio furniture that’s on sale, and ...”At that point, I zoned out. Minutes later, the phone still held to my ear, I noticed she had never stopped talking, “... you know, I don’t know if we’ll get the opportunity for this type of deal again, and — ”“Yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead and buy it,” I said as the Dogs sputtered offensively against Arkansas (first half). She hung up quickly and happily.Normally, I would inquire about such things as, oh, I don’t know, the price. But she ...

Modern design earns historic status for Tucson home by famed local architect | Local news

The modern-looking two-story home he designed for himself on Lind Road, near Fort Lowell Road and Tucson Boulevard, is an example of Brutalist architecture, a postwar movement that first emerged from Great Britain in the 1950s.The form is characterized by angular geometric shapes and bare building materials — usually exposed concrete or brick — with monochromatic colors and little adornment.Clinco said many civic buildings were built in the Brutalist style during the middle of the 20th century, including Pima Community College’s West Campus on Anklam Road and the Mathematics Building and library at the University of Arizona.Style goes from villain to heroBrutalist houses are much harder to find. “I think there are just a very, very small handful of homes in Tucson that are built in this st...

The return of warm, earthy browns is among fall decor trends | Home & Garden

Don't overdo brown, she warns, but blend it with modern materials like marble for beautiful juxtapositions."Bringing it in with light woods, leathers and other natural materials can help make a space feel timeless," Jimenez says.Melissa Morgan of M Interiors in San Antonio, Texas, thinks brown's rebirth is "a reaction to years of very light, tonal interiors. Clients are looking for warmth and sanctuary in their homes more than ever."Lighter, yellowish browns, like caramel, often works well in leather."In upholstery, we consider saddle leather to be a form of brown that's like a trusty pair of blue jeans - it goes with everything," said Chicago designer Brynn Olson.Soft browns and caramels are also appearing in pillows, lamps and drapes. Caning is on trend too, said Amy Leferink of Interior...

Comforting brown returns as a fall home decor trend

In recent years, brown anything in a living space was considered by some arbiters of decor as drab and outdated. But this fall the hue is back in favor, in part because of the unsettled, anxious state of the world. The Art to Gothic Decor in the Modern Home

Gothic fashion and art may seem like ephemeral trends, but these subcultures are steeped in history. And what’s interesting in the world of interiors is gothic design’s multifaceted nature, drawing influences from across the centuries and undergoing many transformations through time. Yet however you look at it, it’s timeless.Gothic décor channels design elements from the Romanesque, Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras, but the most popular style of goth that works in the modern home today is ‘gothic romance’. This is an elegant and charming rendition of the dark, dramatic and moody. Combining darkness and shadows with lightness and colour, this design narrative easily fits into any contemporary space. With its many juxtapositions, gothic style can be tricky to pinpoint for the untrained ...

"Most of my friends and people in the community that know me said, 'oh my gosh, you're so brave!' I interpreted that as: 'You must be crazy!'” Faitell said. "But I realized very quickly that people are spending all this extra time in their homes, looking at their walls and interiors and wanting to make improvements. They're spending money on their homes because they're not spending it on oth...
