An Iraqi teen with autism expresses himself through color. He draws in black since his mother got coronavirus

Nahla al-Nadawi's voice is filled with love as she gently asks her son why the flower he drew is black. © Aqeel Najm/CNN The color black has crept back into Ussayid's drawings. Nahla believes that her son has carried that darkness with him since his father's death. It pains her to have to ask that question. Ussayid, 19, has autism and struggles to verbally express his thoughts, fears, and pain. He does so through colors. "We worked for years to get him away from the black of death," she explains. "But this was his expression of his fear that I would die or that my husband who he considers as a father figure would die."Nahla and her husband Aqil both contracted the coronavirus within days of each other. To get Covid-19 in Iraq means to assume responsibility for yourself, sh...

True Color Of The General Lee Discovered After All These Years

It's orange, but of course, it's not that simple. The holy trinity of famous Hollywood cars is somewhat debatable. There are a handful of vehicles that quality, but the 1969 Dodge Charger known as the General Lee is virtually guaranteed a spot in the top three. Many would argue the orange muscle car is the most iconic Hollywood machine of them all, having dodged the law while jumping every obstacle in Georgia during its seven-season run on The Dukes of Hazzard. But is the General actually orange? © AutoClassics General Lee Big Block The answer is obviously yes, but not all oranges are created equal. For decades there's been debate as to the car's specific shade of orange. Being a Dodge product, many people assumed the car wore a bright coat of Hemi Orange. Folks deep in the Gen...

Should Backsplash Tile Match the Countertop Color? | Home Guides

Designing a kitchen allows you to go wild with your decorating ideas. A kitchen home improvement project puts your creativity on the front burner because the kitchen is a room you'll use throughout the day and provides a central hub for socializing. When you coordinate your design elements and architectural features, colors don't have to match, but they should coordinate. Your backsplash tile doesn't have to mirror the color of your countertops, but it should blend, harmonize and support the rest of the features in the room. Matching Colors When you match backsplash tile with the color of your countertops, the result is a continuous color flow that makes your kitchen appear uniform and connected. For example, cream, beige, brown or gray backsplash tile often matches granite, wo...

Hype around the recently reinvented Ford Bronco has been tremendous ever since the official presentation in July, and shows no signs of wearing off. Fairway Green: A Stunning and Rare Early C5 Color

Seeing one of these rare Corvettes is a treat for the eyes. Towards the end of the C4’s run, Polo Green became a popular hue. Anyone who was alive then knows that, for a brief period in the 1990s, dark green was a popular color for sports and luxury cars. In 1996, for example, Chevrolet sold around 4,000 red Corvettes, and about 2,400 in Polo Green. For the first year of the C5, Chevrolet offered a similar color called Fairway Green. It was brighter and deeper than Polo Green, and it accented the Corvette’s curvaceous new shape well. However, as the world looked toward the impending new millennium, the appeal of green cars softened. Maybe green didn’t seem futuristic enough to ’90s sensibilities. Silver reigned supreme. In 1997, GM sold just 155 Corvettes in Fairwa...

Nanopillars Precisely Control the Color and Intensity of Transmitted Light

By shining white light on a glass slide stippled with millions of tiny titanium dioxide pillars, researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and their collaborators have reproduced with astonishing fidelity the luminous hues and subtle shadings of “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece. Panetta is one of five artists selected by Threshold Arts to add color to the concrete structures separating outdoor spaces restaurants and cafes have added to adapt to occupancy guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. “These are going to be here for a while, so why not add some color and vibrancy downtown,” asked Naura Anderson of Threshold Arts.
